Food systems are currently inefficient: it is estimated that one-third to one-half of all food produced is lost before reaching a human mouth.  Participants in Concern’s LEAF Project tend their crops in  Tana River County, Kenya.  For the first time in three decades,  there was no need for  food aid distribution in the communities  where LEAF was active. In 2015, the United Nations set a specific goal for food waste reduction: to halve global food waste per capita at retail and consumer levels by 2030. It also has a broader goal of reducing food waste throughout the food supply chain. Despite collaborative efforts and increased awareness, a substantial amount of food is stil...

Quranic verses & hadith to support According to Islamic perspective, this issue of zero hunger can be linked to one of the Quran's passages that states that we must not have "wasting habits" since it reveals how awful that mentality is, akin to Satan's. The rules set down by Allah S.W.T in Surah Al-Isra' verse 27 of the Quran Karim were also followed in this case. وَءَاتِ ذَا ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ حَقَّهُۥ وَٱلۡمِسۡكِینَ وَٱبۡنَ ٱلسَّبِیلِ وَلَا تُبَذِّرۡ تَبۡذِیرًا o إِنَّ ٱلْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوٓا۟ إِخْوَٰنَ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ ۖ وَكَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ لِرَبِّهِۦ كَفُورًا o (26&27: Surah Al-Isra) Translation; Give to close relatives their due, as well as the poor and ˹needy˺ travellers. And do not spend wastefully.Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful. In this verse Allah explained, both Satan and those who squander do not fulfil their duty of appreciating God’s favours, which means that they should use it only in...

4. Issues

Issues After decades of steady reduction, the number of people who are hungry – as measured by the incidence of undernourishment – began to steadily rise again in 2015. According to current estimates, approximately 690 million people, or 8.9% of the world's population, are hungry, rising 10 million in a year and nearly 60 million in five years.By 2030, the world is not on pace to achieve Zero Hunger. By 2030, the number of people impacted by hunger would have risen to 840 million if current trends continue. According to the World Food Programme, 135 million people are suffering from severe hunger, owing to a combination of man-made wars, climate change, and economic downturns. By the end of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic might have doubled that amount, placing another 130 million people at danger of starvation. With almost a quarter of a billion people on the verge of famine, immediate action is required to deliver food and humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable areas. Simultan...

Despite the fact that the problem of hunger has become invisible, many people are nonetheless in comparable situations today. The government continues to help people in need, and the issue of food insecurity is becoming more visible owing to study and media attention.
